Abstract

The Old Anatolian Turkish, which constitutes the first phase of Western Turkish and refers to the period between the 13th and 15th centuries, is one of the most remarkable historical phases of the Turkish language with its characteristic features. The mentioned phase also has a special importance in terms of analyzing various grammatical structures and revealing their formation in the historical process. On the other hand, the suffix {-(y)IsAr}, which is one of the suffixes specific to Old Anatolian Turkish and marks the future tense in the relevant period, has attracted the attention of many researchers due to reasons such as its disyllabic form, its lack of witnesses in modern Turkic languages, its various modality functions and the fact that its use in written language has ceased over time. There are different opinions on the etymology of the mentioned suffix. The reason for thisisthat it isformed by the fusion of more than one suffix in terms of structure and that it entered the Old Anatolian Turkish texts after completing its formation. In this study, based on the relevant situation, firstly the views of the researchers who put forward ideas on the issue will be subjected to a critical evaluation, and then our views and thoughts on the origin of the relevant suffix will be expressed based on the diachronic approach.
